The Gwinnett County government on March 6 passed a motion that confirmed a sister-community relationship with the Gangnam District of Seoul, South Korea’s capital.

Gangnam’s government submitted the application for a formal partnership after visiting Gwinnett twice to explore business opportunities.

The county partnered with the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce in facilitating and approving the agreement. Officials hope it will be a conduit for increased international commerce with South Korea and beyond.

“Our goals for international business are clear and pointed.  We want to increase foreign direct investment into Gwinnett County while seeking opportunities for our existing industry to expand,” Nick Masino, the chamber’s vice president of economic development, said in a news release.

A Gwinnett delegation will travel to South Korea sometime this spring to take part in an official signing ceremony with Gangnam Mayor Jung-ju Maeng. 

A 20-person committee with representatives from both communities will begin meeting in the spring to discuss how the partnership will move forward to create business links.
