Trevor Williams
Atlanta - 04.23.09

Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce officials have set up a donation account at Coastal Bank for the family of Nils Eric Svensson, a Swedish visitor who was killed when a truck hit him in Savannah.

The account will also cover expenses related to the recovery of Anne Christine Bjarkby, a Swedish woman who was also hit when she and Mr. Svensson were crossing Oglethorpe Street on the evening of April 21.

They had left a dinner reception with a group of about 30 people when the incident occurred.

Mr. Svensson was pronounced dead at Memorial University Medical Center shortly before midnight on April 21. Ms. Bjarkby suffered a fractured hip and remains at the hospital.

Mr. Svensson and Ms. Bjarkby were visiting Savannah for the Swedish-American Entrepreneurial Days business conference.

Donations will cover any uninsured hospital expenses as well as travel costs incurred by Ms. Bjarkby's family, said Mee Eriksson, a special organizer of the Edays conference.  The Savannah College of Art & Design is allowing relatives of the victims to stay in some of their facilities.

The donations will also help with travel expenses for Mr. Svensson's family and costs associated with the affairs surrounding his death, Ms. Eriksson told GlobalGeorgia.

Donations can be made to this fund at any of the Coastal Bank's six branches or by sending a check by mail.

Checks can be made payable to "SACC FBO Swedish Delegates in Savannah"(FBO= for benefit of).  Alternatively, people may mail donations to:
