The World Chamber of Commerce is preparing its first black-tie gala and networking event to conclude a two-day series of panel discussions on international trade and overseas markets Dec. 3-4.
To be held at the Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead, the gala is to draw a collection of businesspeople, diplomats from Georgia and abroad and local officials committed to developing Atlanta as an international business center.
Not to be outdone by the many other social events of the Atlanta-based bi-national chambers of commerce or the recently held “Atlanta World Showcase,” which included the "Governor's International Awards," this one is to be called the “WCC International Trade Heroes Award Fundraising Gala.”
The event is to recognize individuals, companies and organizations that are raising the profile of international trade affecting Georgia, according to Tom McLain, a member of the board’s executive committee and vice president of the organization.
Mr. McLain, a corporate attorney with Chorey, Taylor and Feil PC, told GlobalAtlanta that the World Chamber seeks to implement what it calls the “WCC International Trade Process” providing access for international companies to U.S. markets.
It also holds trade seminars with a wide range of speakers already committed to the Dec. 3-4 panels, which will be held at the Grand Hyatt in Buckhead, including the chamber’s honorary chairman, former U.N ambassador, U.S. congressman and Atlanta mayor, Andrew Young.
Other confirmed speakers are U.S. Ambassador Charles Shapiro, a senior adviser for economic initiatives at the State Department; Ambassador Reda Mansour, dean of the Consular Corp of Georgia and Atlanta-based consul general of Israel.
Germany’s consul general, Lutz Gorgens and Mexico’s consul general, Salvador DeLara also are to be on the panels. In addition, Christopher Smith, Denmark’s honorary consul and Bruce Allen, honorary consul of the Principality of Liechtenstein, who both live in Macon, are to speak.
Tom Strauss, southern network director, U.S. Commerce Department and Craig Lesser, former commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development and chairman of the World Chamber, are to participate as well.
Other scheduled speakers include Dan Moss Jr. and Timothy J. Jeffrey with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC and Charles Green, president of the Sunrise Bank of Atlanta, who are to participate on an economics panel.
The cost to attend the symposium and the gala is $199 per person, and to attend only the gala, $130. To register, go to www.worldchamberc.org or call Solange Warner, the chamber’s founder and president, at (678) 938-4605.
