Germany's government on Dec. 5 honored the Atlanta International School for its German language programs, inducting the private Buckhead institution into a worldwide network of 1,000 partner schools.
Germany's foreign ministry launched the program, called PASCH, translated as Schools: Partners for the Future, in 2008 to foster interest among young people in the European nation and its society.
The Atlanta International School has offered German programs since its founding 25 years ago.
Sonke Lorenz, a deputy German consul in Atlanta, said those programs are an important asset to students' career aspirations as German companies increasingly invest in metro Atlanta and the Southeast.
Mr. Lorenz presented the distinction to German language students on Dec. 5 at the school's annual German Christmas Market, which features traditional food and culture.
