Arby's Restaurant Group Inc. President and Chief Executive Tom Garrett is stepping down from his post at the Atlanta-based restaurant chain.

Mr. Garrett became Arby's president and CEO in September 2008, just after Triarc Cos., then the main franchiser of Arby's restaurants, bought Wendy's International Inc. to form the third largest quick-service restaurant company in the U.S., called Wendy's/Arby's Group Inc. 

Mr. Garrett previously served as Arby's president and chief operating officer. Overall, he spent 29 years with the company.

Roland Smith, president and CEO of Wendy's/Arby's, will take over as interim president of Arby's immediately. A search for a permanent replacement is under way.
