Delta Announces Fares for New Accra Flight
David Beasley
Atlanta - 03.15.10
Alfred Vanderpuije, mayor of Accra, Ghana, discusses the new Delta flight from Atlanta that starts June 1.

Delta Air Lines Inc. is offering fares of $799 each way for the nonstop flight between Atlanta and Accra, Ghana, that begins June 1.

Tickets must be purchased by March 31 for travel that begins between June 1 and Aug. 28 and ends by Sept. 28, Delta said in a news release. The fare is for tickets purchased on Delta.com with an additional $20 if purchased over the phone and $35 if bought at a ticket counter.

The fare requires a Saturday night stay. Passengers can stay in Ghana no more than a month.

The new flight will operate three times weekly, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Delta also flies to Accra from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

In an interview with GlobalAtlanta last month, Alfred Vanderpuije, mayor of Accra, predicted widespread benefits to his city from the new Delta flight.

"It will promote opportunities for tourism," Mr. Vanderpuije said during a visit here. "It will promote business. It will provide opportunities especially for Ghanaians [in Atlanta] who have family in Accra."
