MAP International, the Georgia-based Christian health organization, is sending medicine and medical supplies to Uzbekistan to help refugees from neighboring Kyrgyzstan, where ethnic violence has recently erupted.

MAP, which has offices in Atlanta and a warehouse in Brunswick, has assembled supplies valued at $1.5 million wholesale for shipment to the region, according to a news release.

“The conditions are extremely difficult for those who fled the violence," Michael Nyenhuis, president and CEO of MAP, said in the news release.

Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan were both part of the former Soviet Union.

MAP is also increasing its funding for the West African nation of Ghana, which has recently suffered heavy flooding.

In 2009, MAP distributed more than $400 million in donated medical supplies in 119 countries.
