West Georgia's WebMBA program ranked #4 in the U.S.


The Georgia WebMBA is connecting Georgia students to classmates around the world and preparing them for the workforce of the future, according to Faye McIntyre, dean of the Richards College of Business at the University of West Georgia.

Dr. McIntyre told Global Atlanta that the program’s virtual classrooms reflect real-world working environments by making the students engage with peers in other countries who like them can complete all their coursework online with the exception of a two-day orientation in Atlanta.

“Engaging with international students in the Georgia WebMBA program exposes Georgia students to diverse cultures, thought processes and customs that will help broaden their perspective on the world. That is vital in today’s global marketplace,” she said.

The first Georgia WebMBA degree program began in the spring of 2001 after deans at five state university business schools worked together to form the program.

Six schools now offer the degree including the University of West Georgia, Georgia Southern University, Valdosta State University, Columbus State University, Kennesaw State University and Georgia College and State University.

In April, Dr. McIntyre learned that the Richards College’s online master’s degree in business administration was ranked fourth nationally by U.S. News & World Report for 2014, outperforming more than 200 other business programs.

The university shares its No. 4 ranking with the University of Texas - Dallas and follows online business programs offered at Indiana University, Arizona State University and the University of Florida.

The West Georgia program includes five semesters during which students work closely with fellow students across town, across the country or around the world.

While Dr. McIntyre said that the majority of WebMBA students are located in the state, there are many from foreign countries including Japan, Canada, China, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland and Chile.

The total cost of the program for students beginning this fall is just under $22,000, and they will pay the same amount whether they are from Atlanta or China, she said.

“The orientation in Atlanta is mandatory, although we do make exceptions on occasion for international students,” she added. “We want students to be in-person because they need to meet the teammates they will work with for the next five semesters. We have found that orientation is a crucially important time for our students to form bonds with classmates.
