Plastic isn’t always considered environmentally friendly, but in the logistics industry, it can work wonders in saving trees used to make wood for pallets and crates.
That’s the “green” benefit touted by Polymer Logistics, an Israeli company that makes stackable, collapsible and reusable plastic crates to transport and display produce. A new wood-grain look that gives them a warmer, higher-end appearance has caught the eye of food distributors whose yams, avocados and other produce are sold in Walmart and other major stores.
The company announced in May that it’s investing $4 million to put its third U.S. distribution center in Dublin, Ga., eventually to employ 110 people.
It’s the latest in a series of Georgia investments from Israel, where companies often look beyond their small domestic market to the U.S. for growth. The country has about 8 million people — fewer than Georgia.
The company already has service centers in California and Texas, but Georgia proved itself hospitable for its expansion, leaders said.
“The ease of doing business in the state has been impressive and will accelerate the completion of this facility,” COO Danny Bartal said in a news release.
Polymer’s range of products include stackable and nesting crates, pallets of various sizes to adhere to U.S. and EU regulations and even some that come with integrated dollies and serve as their display cases, making it easier to move them throughout stores.
