Managing Sustainability and Food Security in Conflict Regions

August 30, 2017 at 8:30 am - 1:00 pm

Food insecurity is both a cause and consequence of conflict. Managing food insecurity poses increasing challenges to the international development community.  Food insecurity as a cause of conflict is often linked to international market dynamics, which can send shock waves across continents, as the world experienced during the 2007/2008 global food price crisis. Food insecurity as a consequence of conflict is related to the destruction, disruption, and diversion of productive resources during conflict. The purpose of this workshop is to generate greater awareness of the importance and challenges of food security management as a conflict prevention policy and a humanitarian response mechanism in conflict-affected regions.
