Five years after Russia’s invasion and annexation of Crimea,tensions still reign between Russia and Ukraine. On January 16th, Russian officials issued further threats to Ukraine’s statehood if Ukraine continues to lean towards the West. Meanwhile, Ukraine continues to call on support from the West and NATO to help defend its borders and democratic ideals.
With the Ukrainian elections around the corner, what will the future hold for the country? What role should the west be playing, if any, to counterbalance Russian influence?
