Conversations with Refugees in Solidarity with Black Lives Matter

Join Refugee Women’s Network (RWN)in engaging in personal narratives of refugees in the community and amplify the importance of standing in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. They will discuss RWN’s work during this time and have speakers from the community educating us on the intersectionality of refugees and the Black Lives Matter movement.
As everyone continues to educate themselves, join in better understanding the community and neighbors’ experiences to be be able to empathize and be better allies to refugee, immigrant, Brown and Black communities.

Meet the Speakers:

Sushma Barakoti

Sushma is RWN’s Executive director. She is from Nepal and has been a leader in the international development and nonprofit sectors for more than two decades. (Click here for bio)

Iyabo Onipede

Iyabo is Co-director atย Compassionate Atlantaย as well as an Inclusion, Equity and Justice specialist, coach, facilitator and speaker. (Iyabo’s LinkedIn)

Jessica Wooten

Jessica is an entrepreneur and just launched her business in March.Her and her family came to the U.S. as refugees in 1996. (Jessica’s LinkedIn)

Awaz Jabari

Awaz is RWN’s Program Manager. She is from north of Iraq, and came to the U.S. as an asylee in 1997 where she has dedicated her career to ending violence against women. (Click here for bio)
