The Undersecretary for Foreign Trade of Mexico, Luz María de la Mora, and the Consul General of Mexico in Atlanta, Javier Díaz de León, kindly invite you to join in the online discussion about Mexico-U.S. strategic trade partnership and the business opportunities for Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee under the new USMCA.
LUZ MARIA DE LA MORA SANCHEZ
As of December 1, 2018, she is Viceminister of Foreign Trade in the Ministry of Economy. She has been Head of the Unit of Economic Relations and International Cooperation in Mexico ́s Foreign Affairs and Head of the International Trade Negotiations Unit in Mexico ́s Ministry of Economy, as well as head of the representations of Mexico ́s Economy Ministry before the European Union in Brussels and before ALADI in Montevideo. She served as economic counselor at the Embassy of Mexico in Washington, DC, and was part of the NAFTA negotiating. She has been NAFTA Chapter 19 panelist and consultant with the Advisory Committee of the Latin America Division of the World Bank.
In the academic field, she has been a visiting researcher at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington DC and at the Center for US-Mexico Studies of the University of California at San Diego. She has been an affiliate professor in the International Studies Division of CIDE and is the author of the book Apertura con Reciprocidad (2012). She has been a member of the Mexican Council of International Affairs (COMEXI). She led the WeConnect International Program in Mexico and the Mexico Chapter of Vital Voices Global Partnership, promoting the development and internationalization of women’s businesses. She holds a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from El Colegio de México, a Master’s in International Political Economy from Carleton University, in Canada, and a PhD in Political Science from Yale University in the United States. She has been a Fulbright Scholar Government of Canada award holder and CONACYT fellow.
JAVIER DÍAZ DE LEON
Consul General, Javier Díaz de León, holds a Bachelors degree in International Relations from the Universidad Iberoamericana and a Masters of Arts in International Conflict Analysis by the University of Kent, in England.
Diaz is a member of the Mexican Foreign Service since 1991 and holds the rank of Ambassador since April 28th, 2017. During his diplomatic career he has held various positions: Deputy Consul General in San Diego; Deputy Consul General in New York, Head of the Office for Migration and Hispanic Affairs at the Embassy of Mexico in the United States, and Executive Director of the Institute for Mexicans Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Mexico City. From June 2013 to May 2016 he served as Consul General of Mexico in Raleigh, North Carolina. In May 2016, he was appointed as Consul General of Mexico in Atlanta, Georgia, serving in this position since June 18th, 2016.
The Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta oversees the states of Georgia, Alabama and most of Tennessee.
