The Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce has inked a new agreement with the Georgia-Indo American Chamber of Commerce, the latest in a line of collaborations designed to enhance business ties with diverse diaspora communities in the county.
Indian Consul General Swati Kulkarni, who visited the chamber to witness the signing ceremony at the chamber Aug. 12, noted that the county was home to 30,000 Indians or Indian-Americans. State Sen. Sheikh Rahman, a Bangladesh-born Democrat from District 5 in Gwinnett, pointed out that the Asian-American Pacific Islander population in the state showed a 53 percent increase in recently released census data.
“Gwinnett County is home to a significant percentage of the Indian diaspora and several Indian-owned businesses in greater Atlanta. GIACC hopes this MOU will further promote and foster business opportunities between India and the state of Georgia, which is the primary mission of GIACC,” said Anita Ninan, an immigration attorney who chairs the chamber’s board.
Pabs Raghava, CEO of Tours Limited and a GIACC board member, fills the GIACC’s seat on the chamber’s board of directors.
The event took place just before Aug. 15 celebrations of India’s 75th independence day.
The MOU is the fourth signed in the last year with internationally oriented chambers in the state. Gwinnett, home to more than 600 international companies, has linked up with the German-American Chamber, the Korean-American Chamber, a Vietnamese chamber and others as it seeks to promote further global growth.
