The High Museum of Art invites Atlantans to celebrate the legacy of artist Isamu Noguchi with a lantern parade linking the museum to his iconic “Playscapes” installation in Piedmont Park. Inspired by Noguchi’s signature “Akari” lanterns, this family-friendly evening blends art, movement, and community in a unique outdoor experience.

The event begins with access to the exhibition Isamu Noguchi: “I am not a designer”, along with guided tours and hands-on lantern-making led by Atlanta lantern artist Chantelle Rytter. Guests can also enjoy music, interactive art activities, and remarks from local cultural leaders, creating an engaging atmosphere that connects Noguchi’s work to contemporary creative practice.

The evening culminates in a festive lantern parade from the High to “Playscapes,” the sculptural playground commissioned for Atlanta’s bicentennial. Participants are encouraged to carry their own lanterns and join the illuminated procession, celebrating Noguchi’s vision through art, light, and shared experience.
