The Atlanta Metro Export Plan has announced 35 winners of $5,000 grants intended to boost metro Atlanta companies’ international sales.
The winners were selected out of 70 applicants, hailed from 12 metro-area counties and were first unveiled at Global Atlanta’s Jan. 21 Export Stories event sponsored by the Atlanta Metro Export Plan, which is administering grants provided by JPMorgan Chase.
The grant winners come from a variety of industries, from lingerie to tech-enabled international tourism, sprinkled with manufacturers of water filtration systems, speedboats, powdered peanut butter, craft ice cream, beer, barbecue ingredients and more, as well as providers of services from book printing to architecture to vending machine inventory management.
The $5,000 grantees are semifinalists in the Atlanta Export Challenge, which now moves to a pitch competition wehre the top three companies will be awarded $20,000, $10,000 and $5,000, respectively.
The challenge is a practical, action-oriented component of the Metro Export Plan, a city-level strategy for boosting exports that came out of the Global Cities Initiative and was based on research from the Brookings Institution. The plan included a broad array of stakeholders from private companies to government entities from 29 metro-area counties. The Metro Atlanta Chamber played a leading role in coordinating the effort.

The Global Atlanta event looked forward to the release of the publication’s second annual Export Stories special report and also included a panel discussion where exporters shared tales of caution and success in international business. It also included the release of a Habif, Arogeti & Wynne LLP survey of 120 exporters that provided a snapshot of their global operations and sales strategies during 2015.
