Japan-US Leadership in Asia-Pacific: Trade Seminar
In his lecture, Professor Watanabe will cover:
- Global challenges and regional uncertainties; how Japan and the US can jointly address the issues
- Strategic importance of the TPP and beyond; TPP as a “security pact” for economic relations across the region
- Increasing coherence in the Japan-US trade; a case of Japanese auto industry in the USA
Professor Watanabe is a professor in Policy Management at Keio University (Japan). His areas of expertise are International Political Economy, GATT/WTO Law, Trade Policy and European Integration. His distinguished career involves major bilateral/multilateral trade negotiations. This includes the role of policy advisor to relevant Ministries, and postings to Japan’s diplomatic missions in Brussels and Geneva. He was also Deputy Director-General of the Economic Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and served as Chief Negotiator for the Japan-Mexico Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and the Working Party on Russia’s Accession to the WTO.
