Editor’s note: Throughout the week, we talked to many Yellow Jacket faithful about the push and pull factors that persuaded them to use a football game as the “perfect excuse” to travel across the pond and join the 10,000+ who witnessed a thrilling upset at Aviva Stadium in Dublin.  

We decided to release the resulting story with our friends at Rough Draft ATL, given their wider readership on sports and culture and their presumably larger universe of Georgia Tech alumni. Global Atlanta is more interested in the meetings surrounding the game, from the 25 legislators who traversed the island from Belfast to Wexford to the Georgia Tech president’s visit to Trinity College and the state and city leaders using the game as an entree to court companies. 

But it seemed a shame to waste a golden opportunity to tell this story of Atlanta fanfare by focusing too tightly on the international business angle. Interested?
