Our Global City
Nearly three decades after the Olympic Games improbably chose Atlanta, a new set of facts is indisputable: the U.S. center of gravity is shifting South, and the metro area is staking claim as a cultural and economic capital, an unrivaled regional crossroads for international trade and investment.
A city built on logistics, Atlanta has long possessed the assets of a global city — it’s the sixth largest metro, boasts the world’s busiest airport and hosts thousands of international subsidiaries, 70+ consulates and trade offices, and a bevy of binationals.
Now, with its bona fide cultural influence recognized, foreign investors driving the majority of growth and the World Cup approaching, Atlanta has a new mindset that doesn’t just passively receive global engagement but enthusiastically embraces and strategically propels it.
Our Philosophy
At Global Atlanta, we’ve told this Story for more than 30 years through in-depth, relational reporting that presents readers with actionable opportunities and reveals unexpected global ties.
While we’re aware of the checkered history and real threats of globalization, Global Atlanta is premised on the idea that cross-border engagement is an opportunity and that business is a means for people to know and understand each other across ethnic and national boundaries.
We believe in “Grounded Globalism,” that the South is in the process of reorienting toward the world. Local identity matters, and readers will care about what happens “out there” to the extent they understand how it affects their own communities. In a politicized environment in which some view global trade as a threat, we show Atlantans how their fortunes are already interlinked with the world and how they can be actively engaged in shaping a constructively connected future.
Founder and Publisher Emeritus Phil Bolton saw these trends taking shape in the early 1990s, and while he notes that globalization has gone from “conception to cliche” since then, demand for smart analysis and engaging storytelling hasn’t waned.
