Delta Air Lines Inc.'s new flights to Africa have strengthened Atlanta's claim as a gateway to the continent, former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young said.

Former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young will speak in Atlanta on why sustainability is necessary for businesses to prosper in the developing world.

The former Atlanta mayor and Georgia congressman will give the keynote address at the Leadership Summit on Food and Fuel Sustainability at the Biotechnology Industry Organization’s 2009 BIO International Convention.

The event will focus on how biotechnology helps address rising demand for food and fuel as a result of climate change and population growth.

Mr. Young works as a business consultant to foster economic development in Africa and other parts of the developing world.  He is chairman of the Southern Africa Enterprise Development Fund and co-chairman of GoodWorks International LLC, a consultancy focused on Africa.
