An Atlanta company has signed an agreement to work with one of South Africa’s largest information technology distribution companies, to help Africa’s biggest economy always keep its lights on.
Cape Town, South Africa-based First Distribution signed on March 4 an agreement with Innovolt Inc., a locally headquartered provider of electronics management technology, to distribute Innovolt’s technology throughout South Africa.
“In today’s ‘always-on’ business society, the need to have a constant and uninterrupted power supply has grown to the point where protecting your electronic equipment is vital,” Charlie Murray, First Distribution’s general manager for networking, said in a news release.
“Luckily, Innovolt offers innovative and proven solutions which can ensure that our electronic equipment never fails when our customers most need it.”
South Africa suffers periodically from power outages, blackouts and power disturbances that lead to damaged electronic equipment and dead computers.
“Bad power can be found in all corners of the globe and is unfortunately a constant problem for businesses in South Africa,” said Jeff Spence, COO and president of Innovolt.
“It’s our goal to make companies in South Africa more efficient and to help them cut down costs related to bad power,” he added.
Mr. Spence told Global Atlanta in August of last year that his company had signed an agreement with a distributor in Canada and would focus on South Africa as a market for its services.
Innovolt was founded by Deepak Divan, a professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, who holds a series of patents related to the privately held company’s success. Dr. Divan remains affiliated with the company as its chief scientist.
