Atlanta International School is expanding its AISx program, a customized academic offering for high school students who need flexible schedules to pursue their passions in sports, arts and other activities.

Starting in August 2024, AISx will welcome new students in grades 9-12 at the school’s new Sandy Springs campus

Launched in the fall of 2023, AISx is an adaptable learning track designed for students who balance rigorous extracurricular commitments with their academic pursuits. The program offers a combination of in-person, virtual and asynchronous classes, tailored to support each student’s unique schedule.

“AISx provides a bespoke learning environment that recognizes the diverse needs of our students. We collaborate closely with families to create personalized schedules, ensuring that each student achieves their academic goals while excelling in their chosen field,” AIS Pathways Coordinator Adam Lapish explains.

AISx initially welcomed a cohort of some 20 students from the Atlanta United Football Club Development Academy. The first school year demonstrated the success of integrating flexible academic schedules with professional sports training. AISx is now broadening its reach to include not only athletes but also students involved in other demanding extracurricular activities.

Beginning August 2024, AISx will operate at the new Sandy Springs campus, set on 25 acres along the Chattahoochee River. The program is open to local and international students, with the option of boarding starting in the summer of 2025.

AISx combines the academic rigor of Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses with a flexible learning model. Emphasizing small class sizes and low teacher-to-student ratios, the program provides personalized academic and college counseling, ensuring that students can thrive academically while managing their training, competitions or professional responsibilities, Mr. Lapish says.

In addition to their tailored academic schedules, AISx students and their families engage in full participation in the broader AIS community, attending extracurricular activities, learning opportunities and school events.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary since founding, AIS has a diverse student body of some 2,000 students of 90 nationalities, speaking more than 60 languages.
