Atlanta ranked third among U.S. cities in the number of residents who make telephone calls to the African nation of Cameroon, according to an Internet phone company’s survey of 1,000 of its customers.

Atlanta and its suburbs rank behind suburban Washington and Houston, according to the survey by Rebtel  Inc. conducted in the first three months of this year.

Nationally, most calls to Cameroon were short, averaging just 5.6 minutes, and to family and friends, the survey found. Only 1.8 percent were business related.
