Knowing longtime Atlanta executive Ricky Steele as one of the best connectors in the city, I eagerly picked up the third edition of his book, The Heart of Networking, hoping to learn from his corporate and community experiences.  I wasn’t disappointed.  Even in the introduction, his words sang to me:

“Build enough relationships, and you have created an environment favorable to your success.”

Much of his book feels like a conversation between friends, and like authentic relationship-building, the book is chock-full of stories, relatable experiences and personal insights.

As a self-professed networker, I found wisdom in his point of view, especially his understanding of the need to give back.  As Muhammad Ali said, “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.”

The Heart of Networking, clearly shows how valuable that approach is, both personally and professionally.  In Steele’s terms, living the ‘giver-not-taker’ mindset enriches not only our work and home lives, but strengthens the community and can change the world. The Heart of Networking is an engaging and heartfelt book, sharing important lessons and a sincere hope for a better future.
