Qualified Georgia companies are being invited to apply for a fully funded buyers’ mission to Cape Town next March.

The picturesque capital of South Africa’s Western Cape province each year hosts the Made in the Cape conference featuring food, components and finished goods available for purchase.

Wesgro, the trade promotion and investment agency in the province, has unlocked funding to cover the airfare and ground-transportation costs of Georgia companies looking to add South Africa to their sourcing portfolio.

Melonie Grunewald, Wesgro’s senior international manager for North America, told Global Atlanta that first-time buyers selected will be fully funded with flights and accommodation, while those who have attended the province’s flagship event in the past may qualify for partial funding.

A delegation from the Atlanta Black Chambers’ Global Opportunities Committee attended the 2024 conference on a broader mission to southern Africa.

Buyers, importers, retailers and distributors are sought in the many fields that overlap with Georgia’s strengths, including food and beverage and engine parts. Georgia is a major exporter of airplanes and automobiles, with many suppliers in each sector putting down roots in the state.

Wesgro’s full list of desired sectors includes:

  • Food & Beverage (including Seafood & Wine)
  • Boat Building
  • Cosmetics & Ingredients
  • Engine & Motor Parts
  • Health & Medical Devices
  • Leather
  • Jewelry
  • Homeware Furniture & Gifting

See Wesgro’s CapeTradePortal.com to search for potential partners.

Applications are due by Oct. 4, 2024, for the conference, which is to be held March 3-6, 2025, in Cape Town. Apply here
