Officials from the Chinese consulate general in Houston visited Atlanta recently to celebrate the Chinese New Year and thank Georgia state representatives for supporting a variety of China-related initiatives.
The delegation attended a New Year celebration sponsored by the National Association of Chinese-Americans upon their arrival on Saturday, Jan. 31.
On Feb. 2, they met with Rep. Charlice Byrd of Woodstock, State House Speaker Glenn Richardson of Hiram, House Majority Leader Jerry Keen of St. Simons and Speaker Pro Tem Mark Burkhalter of Johns Creek.
They expressed gratitude for the Republican legislators’ backing on issues like Delta Air Lines’ nonstop flight to Shanghai, the state’s trade and tourism office in Beijing and the expansion of the Georgia Ports Authority’s relationship with China.
They also were introduced on the floor of the Georgia House of Representatives.
Deputy Consul General Yu Boren headlined the delegation. Other members included Consular Director Chen Guangda and Consul Jing Gao.
The National Association of Chinese-Americans hosted the delegation, and adviser Jung Mar and Chair Lani Wong led the trip to the Capitol.
Georgia falls under the jurisdiction of the Chinese consulate in Houston, which covers the Southeast. There is no Chinese consulate in Atlanta.
