Delta Air Lines remains hopeful that it will be able to begin service between Atlanta and Buenos Aires as soon as Sept. 1, company spokesman Tracy O’Donnal told GlobalFax last week.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has not indicated that any changes have been made to an “open skies” agreement signed last year under the former administration of Carlos Menem, he added.

Press reports from Argentina indicate that the new government of Fernando de la Rua is reevaluating the agreement, but Delta is proceeding with preparations for the new routes, Mr. O’Donnal said.
