Howard G. Buffett, a philanthropist and the son of billionaire investor Warren Buffett, has been named to the Coca-Cola Co. board of directors.

Howard Buffett, 55, currently serves on the board of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., the investment holding company run by his father, which reportedly owns a stake of more than 8 percent in Coca-Cola, making it the company’s largest single shareholder. Warren Buffett is a former Coke director. 

Howard Buffett will join Coke’s Public Issues and Diversity Review Committee on Jan. 1. He is a former board member of Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. and has experience as a director for a variety of large corporations, including ConAgra Foods Inc.

He is also president of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, which focuses on humanitarian projects involving agriculture, nutrition, water and conservation around the world.
