Colombia Delegation to Showcase Goods in Atlanta to Retailers

AmericasMart will introduce approximately 30 Colombian artisans and manufacturers to its upcoming Atlanta International Gift and Home Furnishings Market, which runs July 11-19.

The delegation, which also represents Colombia’s export promotion agency Proexport, will spend five days at the gift show to learn more about the United States market and how to showcase their products at the AmericasMart.

“We hope they’ll learn how to participate in international trade shows, but it’s also going to help them spread the word about AmericasMart in Colombia,” said Sandra Torres, international development coordinator with AmericasMart.

The visiting manufacturers, whose lodging expenses in Atlanta will be paid for by AmericasMart, are to showcase their products to local retailers during a Saturday, July 15, Colombian-themed brunch, said Ms. Torres.

The visiting delegates first learned of AmericasMart during business trips made to the country by AmericasMart General Manager George Lancaster, said Ms. Torres. Mr. Lancaster first went to Colombia about two years ago and made a second trip to the country in March, she said.

This will be the second foreign-based group AmericasMart has hosted in Atlanta. It welcomed a delegation from El Salvador to a similar gift show in January, Ms. Torres said.

A three-building marketplace in downtown Atlanta, AmericasMart showcases a variety of consumer goods to retailers. While the market is open year-round, it hosts biannual gift and home furnishings markets in January and July that bring in 4,400 temporary exhibitors.

Approximately 60,000 buyers are expected during the July show, Ms. Torres said. AmericasMart welcomes more than 540,000 visitors annually.

In addition to the international gift show and market, AmericasMart will also be hosting the Atlanta International Area Rug Market at the same time.
