The appointment of George A. Novak, founder of the George Novak Company, as Atlanta’s first Honorary Consul to the Czech Republic, was announced at the Capital City Club downtown Wednesday, March 15.

Czech Republic Ambassador to the U.S., Michael Zantovsky, made the announcement, saying, “George Novak is a well-connected Atlanta businessman with a flair for international interaction and a desire to assist the Czech Republic, his country of origin.”

Born and raised in Czechoslovakia, Mr. Novak came to the U.S. in 1968 following the Soviet Union’s invasion of his homeland.  He said that he settled in Atlanta because a high school friend, Vladimir Slamecka, had moved here in the late 1940s, eventually becoming a professor at Georgia Tech.

Mr. Novak is an architectural engineer and his firm, which he founded in 1983, assists mostly European clients in establishing production plants in the U.S.
