Some 4,500 international attendees from more than 100 countries are expected at SUPERCOMM ’99, the world’s largest annual communications technology exhibition and conference, to be held here June 6-10 at the Georgia World Congress Center.
Jack Chalden, SUPERCOMM general manager, told GlobalFax in an interview last week that the conference had developed several programs to benefit international visitors.
He said that international participants would have the opportunity to tour on Friday, June 4, the plants of local companies such as Lucent Technologies, TSDEsign and World Access free of charge. A matchmaking reception also is to be held on Sunday, June 6, for exhibitors and international attendees to develop business relationships.
In addition, regional representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce are to be on hand to assist attendees in locating business partners and products of interest and in arranging tours for international buyers.
A highlight of the entire conference, according to Mr. Chalden, is to be the keynote address at the Global Telecom Market (GTM)/International Engineering Consortium (IEC) luncheon at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 7, of Yoshio Utsumi.
Mr. Utsumi, secretary-general of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is to share his vision of the future of global information industry.
He is a leading participant in the development of Japan’s multimedia industries through work with the ongoing construction project of a nationwide optical-fiber network for advanced communications and the creation of the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International.
Before joining SUPERCOMM, Mr. Chalden was executive vice president and general manager of The Atlanta Market Center (AMC), a division of the Portman Companies.
