The first annual Dominican Gala will be held on Saturday, Oct. 2, in the Atlanta City Hall Atrium downtown beginning with a reception at 6:30 p.m. to be followed by dinner and a show at 7:30 p.m.
The gala will feature a range of singing, dancing and acting talents from the Caribbean including Maridalia Hernandez, “the first lady” of Dominican popular music; Mercedes Morales and Victor Ramirez, two Caribbean dancers, and Cimarron, a folk group that will perform a tribute to Afro-Caribbean cultural roots.
Merfry Then Rijo, Miss Dominican Republic 1999, and Mateo Gomez, an award winning stage and film director, also are to attend.
The event is being hosted by the Atlanta Sister Cities Commission, the Mayor’s Office of International Affairs and the Dominican International Association. The city of Salcedo, some 80 miles to the north of Santo Domingo, has had a Sister City relationship with Atlanta since 1997.
