Duane Morris LLP, which has a major law office in Atlanta, has hired Julian Fortuna, former vice president and general tax counsel of InterContinental Hotels Group, as a partner in the Atlanta office, joining the firm’s Corporate Practice Group.

Mr. Fortuna has experience with structuring the tax impacts of mergers, acquisitions, dispositions and reorganizations, joint ventures, construction projects and lease exchanges and other property transactions. He also has worked with cross-border financing, captive insurance and the worldwide use of trademark names and intangibles.

He previously worked for the Internal Revenue Service, where he provided legal counsel to the IRS district directors and their subordinates. He has represented clients before the IRS and other tax authorities on audits, appeals, rulings requests, pre-filing determinations and other procedural matters, as well as the negotiation and interpretation of tax indemnity contracts with third parties, including full responsibility for settlement, mediation and/or litigation.

Julian earned his LL.M. from Emory University School of Law in 1984 and his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law in 1980.
