Elena Espinosa, Mexico’s trade commissioner for the Southeast U.S., has been appointed to head the promotional efforts in Asia of Bancomext, Mexico’s Foreign Trade Bank.
Ms. Espinosa, who has served in Atlanta for the past four years and was a spirited defender of Nafta throughout the Southeast, will be based at Bancomext’s offices in Mexico City.
She told GlobalFax that she looked forward to her new responsibilities, but that she had not expected to be reassigned on such short notice. Already she is scheduled to make a trip to Asia starting with a tour of the Philippines. Bancomext has offices in Tokyo, Osaka, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Seoul and Taipei.
She also said that she considered the development of her office’s capabilities to keep pace with the growth of the Southeast’s economy as her greatest accomplishment here.
Bancomext is responsible for facilitating credits, loan guarantees and promotional services in support of Mexico’s foreign trade. Its web page may be found at http://mexico.busnessline.gob.mx
