While a few ascendant Asian economies have taken the limelight in recent years, Georgia boosters continue to rightly point out that most of the top investors in the state hail from Europe.
Germany, the United Kingdom and France are perennial powerhouses in fields as diverse as manufacturing and media, creating or sustaining tens of thousands of jobs here, while smaller countries like Ireland, Switzerland, Sweden and the Netherlands punch far above their weight with companies in key sectors like fintech, robotics, agriculture and beyond.
With that in view, Atlanta-based law firm Arnall Golden Gregory LLP (AGG), accounting firm Frazier & Deeter and the Metro Atlanta Chamber have teamed up yet again to highlight ongoing opportunities afforded by the transatlantic relationship.
The Springboard to Europe seminar on Oct. 9 is springing into its sixth year since launching in 2016 (with a few hiatus years during the pandemic), showing small and medium-sized companies how to prosper in their across-the-pond investments despite key differences in the regulatory landscape. This year’s event will be hosted at Metro Atlanta Chamber’s office from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Especially as U.S. policy makers focus on “friend-shoring” in an era of uncertain trade policy and supply-chain challenges, Springboard shines a light on pathways for U.S. market entry into Europe, with personal, in-depth insights from these firms’ counterparts in accounting, insurance and beyond.

As in years past, the event will spotlight European diplomats posted in Atlanta to gain snapshots of their countries and current geopolitical issues pertinent to prospective investors.
They are traditionally complemented by European investment agencies and other organizations that exist for foreign investors, providing valuable free services to prospects eyeing their markets.
Thoughts from government representatives are followed by panels with expert service providers steeped in day-to-day deal-making, delving deeply into timely details on how to set up an entity, hire workers, pick the right jurisdictions and protect intellectual property.
In 2023, perhaps more than in other years, geopolitics underpinned the discussion. Facing war in Ukraine, stagnation in many EU states, rising inflation, the election of populist governments and increasing protectionism, the event posted the intentionally provocative question to diplomats from seven countries: Is Europe broken?
The consensus that came back, from both consuls and consultants, was that with the right perspective and advice, opportunity can be found amid crisis, and that even in light of varied opportunities in many world regions, the inertia of the transatlantic trade relationship remains strong enough to warrant a serious look by U.S. companies looking to expand their global footprint through export or investment.
If the networking was any indication, warm personal ties are an added bonus, and the longstanding alliance mitigates political risk relative to other regions in the world.
This year’s programming seems poised to unpack the implications of a series of elections that have thrown Europe into yet another wave of uncertainty.
