3rd Annual Czech That Film festival

The annual Czech film festival titled “Czech That Film” has been established in 2012. Currently, it is the largest Czech cultural event in the United States. It is a film festival of best recent Czech films held throughout the United States every year, with a range of screenings and discussion with cast and crew. The four-month-long festival keeps growing every year. Its sixth edition will reach 15 major US and Canadian cities (Los Angeles, San Fracisco, Salt Lake City, Austin, Washington, Denver, Dallas, Atlanta, New York City, Little Rock, Portland, Minneapolis, Chicago, Seattle, Toronto) in 2017

April 30, 2019 – Patrimony: Fashion designer Eva unexpectedly becomes a widow. Surprises continue to come when she discovers an unknown child’s drawing in her late husband’s possessions. Even though Eva would like to ignore the discovery, her daughter Tereza, whose life is falling apart, latches onto the idea of an estranged stepbrother. The mother and daughter set out in her late husband’s vintage car to follow the trails of his former lovers, look for old friends, and find out more about the hidden family secret.

May 1, 2019 -Golden sting: Young Czechoslovak men learn to play basketball from American Mormons at a YMCA camp in 1938. When World War II erupts a year later, their coach is arrested and executed. A young lawyer named Franta steps in to manage the team. After the liberation of Czechoslovakia in 1945, he visits the prison yard where their coach died, picking up a handful of soil and placing in a box with national colors. The team carries this talisman to the European Championship in Geneva where the Czechs miraculously win in 1946. However, everything changes again with the communist coup in February 1948. Friendships are broken, several basketball players are persecuted, and Franta is arrested. The team will go to Paris to defend their title, but can they succeed?

May 2. 2019- Suitor: Set in the late 1950s, the communist regime controls Czechoslovakia, and a gap has opened between the prewar and postwar generations. City girl Daniela meets country boy Mirek while staying at the garden store run by her aunt and uncle. Love begins to bloom, but Daniela’s father is furious. He has other plans for his daughter, intent on making the perfect match with an educated catch. The romantic comedy is the final instalment of director Hřebejk’s Garden Store trilogy, following three families: an air radio operator, a hair salon owner, and a garden store proprietor against the backdrop of the most dramatic periods of the last century.
