Join Books For Africa’s Fundraising Luncheon, featuring a keynote address from His Excellency Mohamed Siad Doualeh, Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti to the United States.

Who: His Excellency Mohamed Siad Doualeh, in addition to being the ambassador to the U.S., represents Djibouti at the United Nations. Earlier in his career, he was head of a special diplomatic mission to the International Court of Justice. Over the years he has made several presentations at the invitation of academic and diplomatic institutions on conflict resolution, human rights, maritime security, piracy and more. Djibouti, a country of just over 1.1  million people, is located on the Northeast Coast of the Horn of Africa, bordered by Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia. It became independent from France in 1977.

Why: Patrick Plonski, Executive Director of Books For Africa said: “Books For Africa is honored to have Djibouti’s Ambassador here in Atlanta to keynote our fundraiser.  Djibouti is of critical importance to the U.S. owing to the large U.S. military base there, and this visit by the Ambassador will help build goodwill and understanding, as well as help in our mission to advance education across Africa.”
