COVID Consular Conversations: Italy

The coronavirus pandemic has added a new dimension to international competition even as it has underscored global connectivity in a new and challenging way.

Diplomats working around the world to knit together a coordinated response are doing without their customary personal touch and with the added responsibility of shepherding their compatriots through an unprecedented health and economic crisis.

Join Global Atlanta on February 9 for the seventh virtual edition of Consular Conversations, our ongoing series of interviews with consuls general working in the Southeast United States, sponsored by Miller & Martin PLLC. This time, we focus on the Italian Republic with our special guest Cristiano Musillo, the consul general of Italy to the United States in Miami.

Our monthly luncheons may be on indefinite hiatus, but these discussions are as important as ever at a time when cross-border collaboration is at a premium.

  • First, the leader of the Atlanta Chapter of the Italy-American Chamber of Commerce,ย Eugenio Fumo, will offer some opening introductions

  • Lastly (before the Q&A session), the newย Honorary Consul General of Italy in Atlanta, Filiberto Calascibettaย will speak

Cristiano Musillo, Consul General, Italian Consulate in Miami

Cristiano Musillo was born in Lecce on April 5, 1972. He graduated in Political Science from the University of Florence. In 2000, following a competitive process, he was appointed as Liaison Secretary in the Italian Diplomatic Service. Mr. Mussillo completed a special course at the Diplomatic Institute, and was confirmed in the role Liaison Secretary in 2001. From October 2001, he was appointed to the Secretariat of the Directorate-General of Asian, Oceania, Pacific, and Antarctica countries, and then, from 10 June 2002, regent at the Consulate of Recife, Brazil. Since 2004, Mr. Musillo was been Second Secretary in Sofia, Bulgaria, and was promoted to First Secretary on 29 December 2004. From 16 September 2008, he moved to the Press and Information Service. In February 2011, Mr. Musillo returned to Brazil with the function of First Commercial Secretary at the Embassy of Brasilia, then later he was confirmed in the position of Commercial Counselor. During his last position, as advisor to the Directorate General for the Promotion of the Country System of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, he was in charge of the cultural and industrial sector in particular in the fields of design, fashion, publishing, and gastronomy.
