Frank Beyer’s “Jakob der Lügner”

As part of Goethe’s celebration to mark their 40 year anniversary in Atlanta, they’ll be watching films that have been part of their cultural programing here at the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta – one from each of the last four decades. Join them as they watch “Jakob der Lügner,” [Jacob the Liar] directed by Frank Beyer, which was first screened here in 1994.
The film is the latest in their movie series, ‘Germany in the 20th Century through the films of Germany’s greatest directors,’ and will be introduced by Dr. Nick Block from Emory University.
The film will be introduced by Dr. Nick Block from the Department of German Studies at Emory University. Dr. Block received his PhD in German Studies and PhD Certificate in Judaic Studies from the University of Michigan in 2013. Dr. Block currently teaches transnational German literature and new media, Jewish thought, modernism, twentieth and twenty-first century German literature and film.
A question and answer session with Dr. Block will follow the film, along with a reception.
The film will be shown in German with English subtitles. Approximate length: 100 minutes.
