Our Speaker:  

Claudia Maria Valenzuela Diaz began her career as a lawyer in El Salvador after graduating from the Jose Simeon Cañas Central American University. Holding a postgraduate degree from the Diplomat Academy in Chile, she has been a career diplomat. With a heart for service and her country, Valenzuela Diaz was a member of the representation of El Salvador to the International Court of Justice in 2002 and a member of the El Salvador defense team in lawsuits against the State to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the Inter-American Court on Human Rights from 2005 to 2007.

She held the position of Minister Counselor and Legal Advisor to the Permanent Mission of El Salvador to the United Nations from 2007 to 2011 and was an advisor to the President of the General Assembly of the United Nations from 2008 to 2009. She was in charge of negotiating the position of El Salvador to the Judicial Forums at the United Nations from 2007 to 2011. Valenzuela Diaz was Consul of El Salvador from 2011 to 2012 and has served as Consul General of El Salvador since 2012. Proclaim Outstanding Georgia citizen by the Secretary of State of the State of Georgia in 2014, she is proud to serve the El Salvadoran and broader hispanic communities in Atlanta.
