Handel & Bach by Atlanta Baroque Orchestra and Cathedral of St. Philip Choir (Friday, Oct. 13)
October 13 at 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
The Atlanta Baroque Orchestra once again teams up with the Cathedral of St. Philip Choir to present Handel’s magnificent Coronation anthems Zadok the Priest and The King Shall Rejoice, plus his overture to Esther, the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, Organ Concerto (Opus 4 No. 2 in B flat), and J.S. Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D.
G.F. Handel’s exhilarating Zadok the Priest opens the program. Composed for King George II and his consort Queen Caroline in 1727, this immensely popular anthem has been performed at every subsequent English monarch’s coronation, including that of the newly crowned King Charles III.
Joining for this concert are The Cathedral of St. Philip Choirs and the Cathedral’s superb organist, Assistant Choirmaster, and international soloist, Caroline Robinson. Caroline’s sublime artistry will be on full display in Handel’s Organ Concerto Op. 4 No. 2 in B-flat Major. Bach’s Orchestra Suite #3 will enthrall audiences with its rich instrumentation including the rare appearance of three trumpets and timpani. This blockbuster is not to be missed!
