Intercultural Atlanta Series: Latinas – Meet the Decision Makers

The largest and fastest-growing group of immigrants in Georgia in the last decades are Latino or Hispanic, a term that is used interchangeably to refer to persons that speak Spanish, most of whom are Latin American. Latino growth has increased considerably since the 80โs, when Georgia’s Latino population was approximately 61,000 (1% of the total state population). By 2013 Georgia’s Latino population had grown to 9.2% of the population. Today, the Latinos/Hispanic in Georgia has decreased to about 853,689 (8% of the population according to U.S Census Bureau year 2015). Although the Latino population in Georgia comes mainly from Mexico there is a representation from every nation in North, Central, and South America which has dramatically transformed Georgia’s culture, economy, and self-image.
