Reflecting America in the U.S. Foreign Service
February 10, 2022 at 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm

The U.S Department of State is struggling to reflect the country it represents. In 2020, only 57 percent of Americans identified as “white only.” That same year, a Government Accountability Office report found that women and racial minorities working in the State Department were nearly 30 percent less likely to be promoted than their white counterparts.
“There’s no one way to define diversity,” said Ambassador (Ret.) Harry K. Thomas Jr. who introduced innovative recruiting programs during his tenure as Director General of the Foreign Service. “Diversity across organizations like the State Department, USAID and the Peace Corps makes the United States much stronger overseas.”
Join us on Thursday, February 10, 2022, as we sit down with Ambassador Thomas for a candid conversation on how fostering diversity and inclusion will strengthen the State Department and, as a result, U.S. foreign policy at large.
