River Keepers Recognizing Global Ismaili CIVIC Day and World Rivers Day

September 26, 2021

On Sunday, September 26, 2021, Georgians residing in DeKalb County representing Ismaili CIVIC, the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, Georgia Interfaith Power and Light, and the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve will commemorate World Rivers Day, a celebration of the worldโ€™s waterways. It highlights the value of rivers and strives to raise awareness and encourage the improved stewardship of rivers around the world. The event will be held at the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve in Decatur under the leadership of Dr. Chris Beck, Professor from Emory University and President of the Clyde Shephard Nature Preserve.

The service day will also commemorate Global Ismaili CIVIC Day and will begin with a brief history of the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve and an introduction to the watershed by Professor Beck. Hannah Schultz with Georgia Interfaith Power and Light will emphasize the urgency of creation care and discuss with the diverse group of volunteerโ€™s issues facing our rivers and communities in Georgia. The Rev. Nicole Lambelet is the Associate Rector for Family Ministry and Outreach at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany and Dr. Behnoosh Momin, Member for Communications and Publications on the Ismaili Council for the Southeastern USA will articulate and educate on their faiths and its role in caring for the environment.

The event will conclude with an interfaith service project where over 40 volunteers from diverse backgrounds will collectively engage in a river cleanup and hope to educate and inspire others to join the movement.
