Strong Ties in Rough Times – Uncharted Atlantic Waters

The transatlantic relationship remains the backbone of Western security, of stability in Europe and of a liberal world economic order. Mutual trade and investment have brought us unprecedented wealth and productivity.
Peter Beyer, Transatlantic Coordinator of the German Government, CDU parliamentarian and long-standing advocate of transatlantic free trade, shares his perspective on the road ahead for Germany and America.
Beyer began his legal career as an associate attorney for the US-headquartered firm of Mayer, Brown & Platt (now Mayer Brown). He also worked with Brinks, Hofer, Gilson & Lione in Chicago, and Murchison & Cumming in Los Angeles.
A committed Atlanticist for many years, Beyer stands out among Members of the German Bundestag and his party as one of the most committed advocates of a strong transatlantic relationship with the United States and Canada. He serves as parliamentary Special Rapporteur on Transatlantic Relations in the Committee on Foreign Affairs. He is an active member of Atlantik-Brücke, the Aspen Institute and United Europe in addition to numerous organizations in his district. Beyer is also Executive Vice-President of the Southeast Europe Association.
