The 22nd Commemoration of the Rwandan Genocide Against Tutsis

April 16, 2016 at 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Every year, Rwandans Communities organize different activities to educate the public about the genocide in Rwanda. One of the main events is the commemoration and the remembering of the lives of our loved ones killed in the 1994 genocide. We continue to raise public awareness because we believe this is an important contribution in preventing similar tragedies to happen in the world.

Guest Preacher: Dr. Craig McMahan (University Minister and Dean of Chapel)

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Gatsinzi Basa (Member of the Holocaust Educators Network and the International Association of Genocide Scholars) ย

Guest Speaker:ย  Carl Wilkens

Carl is a witness to genocide: During the genocide in Rwanda in 1994, Carl Wilkens is the only American who chose to stay in the country. His saved hundreds of lives by pushing past machete-wielding soldiers and civilians to deliver water and aid to groups of orphans trapped by violence. To learn more about Carl, please go to www.worldoutsidemyshoes.org.ย Here is also a website with clips from the PBS documentary, โ€œGhosts of Rwandaโ€ that are relevant to Wilkensโ€™ story: http://vimeo.com/54387278
