The Empty Throne: America’s Abdication of Global Leadership

May 13, 2019 at 5:45 pm - 7:15 pm

America emerged from WWII victorious and determined to create and lead a new world order. Through strong security alliances, free and open markets, and promoting democracy and human rights globally, American leadership brought decades of peace and prosperity to the world.

75 years later, America has begun to turn its back on global leadership, focusing on winning rather than leading. Who will step in to fill this vacuum and what does this new world order look like? Daalder & Lindsayโ€™s new book The Empty Throne: America’s Abdication of Global Leadership analyzes the choices confronting the United States as the septuagenarian institutions created in the wake of World War II adjust โ€“ or not โ€“ to a new reality.

Robyn Curnow, CNN Anchor, will moderate the discussion. Come join for a discussion with Ivo Daalder, former U.S. Ambassador to NATO and President of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, and James Lindsay, Senior Vice-President, Council on Foreign Relations, as they examine how the U.S.โ€™ global role is changing and what this means for the world.

Admission includes free parking, appetizers, and beer/wine.
