The Gender Dynamics of Pandemics

April 9, 2020 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Transmissions of COVID-19 in developing countries and those experiencing ongoing humanitarian emergencies are on the rise.
Fighting this pandemic with resources and strong government institutions has proved to be challenging even in countries such as the UK and the U.S., imagine this scenario in the developing world where reality is a tale of constrained resources and lack of basic infrastructure.
Then comes the social norms in these developing countries where women and girls come last.
Social norms, such as expectations that women and girls are responsible for doing domestic chores and nursing sick family members, can expose women and girls to greater health risks during COVID-19. CARE USA works in humanitarian relief in these developing countries and now they have the difficult task to ensure that these women and girls are protected from becoming easy targets of this pandemic.
Join the World Affairs Council of Atlanta via Zoom to discuss with Camille Davis, Senior Manager, Humanitarian Resource Mobilization, CARE USA, the implications that COVID-19 will have on gender equality in the developing world.
Organized by the Young Leaders Executive Board. OPEN TO ALL.
