The Nile Project

Conceived by an Egyptian ethnomusicologist and an Ethiopian-American singer, The Nile Project is dedicated to empowering (through music) the diverse—and sometimes conflicted—communities living along the more than 4,000 miles of the Nile River. Consisting of a dozen musicians representing each country bordering the Nile, the musicians speak many languages, use varied rhythms, and play many instruments—from Sudanese harps and Ugandan adungu lyres to Egyptian flutes. But out of this mixture comes melody—just as the Nile Project seeks to turn conflict into harmony.
