The Vietnam War – Documentary Preview Screening and Filmmaker Discussion
May 9, 2017 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

THE VIETNAM WAR an immersive ten part, eighteen hour documentary film series directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, tells the epic story of one of the most consequential, divisive, and misunderstood events in American history. The series features testimony of nearly 100 eye-witnesses, including “ordinary” Americans who fought in the conflict and those who fought against it, and “ordinary” Vietnamese soldiers and civilians from the North and the South. In recalling for the camera what they saw and felt and did half a century ago, these men and women reveal the human dimensions of the searing tragedy that tore America apart, unified Vietnam under communist rule, and cost the lives of 58,000 Americans and as many as three million Vietnamese.
Join us for a preview of selected footage from the series and an in-depth discussion with Co-Director Lynn Novick and Producer Sarah Botstein moderated by GPB’s Celeste Headlee.
